Research in the Divisions

The community of organized research activities at UC Santa Cruz is innovative and multi-disciplinary. Research activities are organized into departmental research clusters and divisional research centers and research institutes. For lists of research unit links, you can also visit the research programs and units page on the main campus website.

Research in the Humanities

The Humanities Institute (THI) serves as an umbrella for a multitude of research centers, research clusters, and multi-campus research projects. With these and other initiatives, THI serves as an incubator for new ideas and provides crucial support to faculty and students at every stage of the research process.

Research in Physical and Biological Sciences

UCSC researchers in the division of Physical and Biological Sciences explore our world from the smallest particles to the total universe. The problems examined impact our lives from health and the environment to developments in technology. Research is organized within formal organized research units, research centers, interdisciplinary research clusters, and individual departments.

Research Infrastructure

The links provided here are offered to help interested parties find their way more deeply into the UCSC research enterprise infrastructure. A great deal of our research infrastructure is under the ownership of principal investigators as part of their respective labs. However, there are rechargeable research resources throughout the campus that are managed and made available to different people in different ways under divisional Dean's office authority.
