ESTCP FY 2024 Supplemental Solicitation The Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) requests proposals in two topic areas: Climate Resilience in DoD Key Geographies and Strategy, Framework, and Datasets to Bridge the Weather-to-Climate Continuum Gap in DoD Weather and Climate Change Exposure Assessment, Adaptation, and Resilience. Costs should be appropriate to the level of effort required. Proposals due September 14, 2023.

Authority to Accept Unsolicited Proposals for Research Partnerships $3M available for innovative projects that address current research priorities and could inform HUD’s policies and programs. Priorities include “Advance Sustainable and Equitable Communities.” Cost share required. Open until June 30, 2025.

The National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS) is offering funding opportunities under two competitions to expand development of actionable, place-based climate information for community heat resilience. Climate Resilience Regional Challenge $575 million is available for projects that build the resilience of coastal communities to extreme weather - Track One: Regional Collaborative Building and Strategy Development, Track Two: Implementation of Resilience and Adaptation Actions. Ocean-Based Climate Resilience $5M available for 15 awards. The NOAA Ocean-Based Climate Resilience Accelerators funding opportunity seeks to fund accelerator entities to support businesses with commercialization of ocean-based climate resilience solutions. Full Proposal Due September 11, 2023.
Ocean Exploration Education $500K - $10M award amounts for proposals that support NOAA Ocean Exploration’s education priorities, which include increasing the diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the education program; and developing education resources to complement virtual and hybrid education delivery. Full Proposal Due September 15, 2023.
Ocean Acidification Program (OAP) Education Mini-Grant Program $50K - $400K award amounts. Priority goals include engaging diverse audiences in ocean acidification education and outreach, matching ocean acidification communication needs with existing research, education and outreach activities, while developing innovative approaches for community involvement. Ocean Acidification Coastal Research: Uniting Investigations and Shipboard Experiments (OA CRUISE) $1M available for 5-10 projects. Cruise project proposals to complement core observing activities on existing cruises as part of its upcoming coastal ocean acidification (OA) cruises targeting the US Coastal Large Marine Ecosystems. 2023 Inflation Reduction Act Climate-Ready Workforce for Coastal States and Territories Competition $50M available for 20 awards to form partnerships to train workers for jobs that enhance climate resilience. LOI Due November 30, 2023 and Full Proposals due February 13, 2024.

Dynamics of Integrated Socio-Environmental Systems (DISES) (nsf20579) $15 - 18M available for 9 to 15 awards for projects that advance basic scientific understanding of integrated socio-environmental systems and the complex interactions within and among the environmental (biological, physical and chemical) and human ("socio") (economic, social, political, or behavioral) components of such a system. Full Proposal Due November 15, 2023.
Organismal Response to Climate Change (ORCC) (nsf22513) $10M available for 6 to 10 awards for projects that integrate the study of genomic, physiological, structural, developmental, neural, or behavioral mechanisms of organismal response to climate change (ORCC) with eco-evolutionary approaches to better manage the effects of a rapidly changing climate on earth's living systems. Full Proposal Due November 15, 2023.
Environmental Convergence Opportunities in Chemical, Bioengineering, Environmental, and Transport Systems (ECO-CBET) (nsf21596) $8.5M available for 5 to 6 awards to support fundamental research activities that confront vexing environmental engineering and sustainability problems by developing foundational knowledge underlying processes and mechanisms such that the design of innovative new materials, processes, and systems is possible. Full Proposal Due January 31, 2024.
Biodiversity on a Changing Planet (BoCP) (nsf23542) $14 - $17M available for 8 to 12 awards. The BoCP program is a cross directorate and international program led by NSF that invites submission of interdisciplinary proposals addressing grand challenges in biodiversity science within the context of unprecedented environmental change, including climate change. Full Proposals due March 21, 2024.
NSF Building Synthetic Microbial Communities for Biology, Mitigating Climate Change, Sustainability, and Biotechnology (Synthetic Communities) $9.5M available for 7 to 12 awards for projects in synthetic microbiology that aim to address pressing societal goals such as mitigating the effects of climate change, building a circular bio-economy, bio-degradation of recalcitrant or "forever chemicals," sustainable crop production, and correcting imbalances in microbial populations in hosts and the environment. Full Proposal Due August 1, 2024.
Paleo Perspectives on Present and Projected Climate (P4CLIMATE) (nsf22612) $14M available for 35 awards for projects that utilize observational and modeling studies to provide paleo perspectives addressing the two research themes: 1) Past Regional and Seasonal Climate; and 2) Past Climate Forcing, Sensitivity, and Feedbacks. Agriculture and Food Research Initiative Foundational and Applied Science Program $300M for research, education, and extension projects in six priority areas: plant health and production and plant products; animal health and production and animal products; food safety, nutrition, and health; bioenergy, natural resources, and environment; agriculture systems and technology; and agriculture economics and rural communities. Accelerating Kelp Research and Restoration in California: 2024 Request for Proposals $5M available for 3 to 8 projects. This solicitation seeks to support solutions-oriented projects that will guide the development of ecosystem-based management strategies for kelp in the face of climate change, including both research and restoration activities. LOI Due August 15, 2023 and Full Proposals Due October 3, 2023.
Eppley Foundation $460K available (typical awards $25K) for projects that have the purpose of “increasing knowledge in pure or applied science…in chemistry, physics and biology through study, research and publication.” LOI due on September 15th and March 15th each year.
