The IATC Fellows Program offers career experience in intellectual property marketing and technology transfer, provides opportunity to connect scientific, business and legal practice, and the possibility to gain skills to apply your graduate training to other professions beyond academia.

Fellows will gain experience writing technical content to promote university inventions. Fellows will also have direct involvement with companies and industry business persons to assist in developing marketing strategy and executing marketing campaigns for the technologies. They will research market review articles and company profiles to identify campaign targets and contact leads, interview industry representatives for the evaluation of university IP, and compose market reports based on findings.

Eligibility:

Internships are open to current UC Santa Cruz graduate-level students in Physical or Biological sciences, Engineering or Computer Sciences, who are in good academic standing.

Hours and expectations:

Interns can commit up to 5-6 hours per week with a six (6) month commitment. Hours are flexible and structured in consideration of academic commitments. Interns are expected to maintain confidentiality of information.

Internship tasks can include:

  • Write and proofread technical content
  • Conduct research and analyze information to identify campaign targets
  • Develop and manage marketing campaigns
  • Monitor and record campaign feedback
  • Managing campaign content on social media
  • Update contact databases using a customer relationship management (CRM) system
