Conflict of Interest Training

What training is required for Conflict of Interest

UCSC requires the COIR (Compliance & Conflict of Interest for Researchers Briefing) training course through the UCSC Learning Management System.

Who must complete training and when

All investigators who have responsibility in design, conduct and reporting of PHS-funded research must take COIR training:

• Prior to engaging in research related to any PHS funded project;
• At least every four years; and
• Immediately when any of the following circumstances apply:
-Institution revises its policy in a manner that affects the investigator;
-When an investigator is new to the institution; or
-When the institution finds an investigator is not in compliance with the institution’s policy or management plan
(ORCA conducts random audits-Principal Investigator must attest to completion on the PHS 900 disclosure form)

  • All extramurally funded researchers every 2 years (mandated and enforced by UC Office of the President)

How is COIR accessed
