Funding Support Request for Enhanced Animal Welfare and Safety

The Office of Research Compliance oversees animal research on the UCSC campus, including studies that occur in the Campus Biomedical Facilities, Long Marine Lab, in investigator-maintained research programs, and at field sites on the campus and around the world. The Institutional Animal Care Committee will consider modest funding requests to support and improve the welfare of animals that are used in research on the campus. Requests might involve improvements to materials used for animal housing and handling, items to support environmental enrichment, resources for animal tracking and record keeping, and other suggestions incidental to primary research costs. Submission may be made by individuals listed as key personnel on animal protocols, with PI approval prior to funding. Requests will be considered by the IACUC committee and funding recommendations will be made quarterly. Larger requests may require matching funding. Feedback will be provided for all requests.
