How to Close Out an Award

Once an award ends, the PI has a set number of days in which to close out all technical and financial aspects of the award. The closeout process has specific requirements outlined in the award terms, and typically involves the submission of final reports and/or reconciliation of financial records between the sponsor and award recipient. Closeout requirements also include any final obligations with subrecipients, and all subrecipient closeout requirements must be completed as part of UC Santa Cruz’s closeout process. Award closeout requirements vary depending on the sponsor.

Examples of final reporting obligations:

  • Technical reports outlining progress or evaluating outcomes of the research.
  • Administrative reports and disclosures related to equipment, inventions/patents, etc.
  • Financial reports on the expenses paid on the grant.
