Seed Funding Initiative logoThe Office of Research is launching a new Seed Funding program to facilitate new collaborations, research projects, and creative works across divisions. Outputs might include submission of a major federal or philanthropic grant application; availability of new research or artistic infrastructure; robust preliminary data; a formal pitch to a publisher; dissemination of policy papers; launch of a podcast; or creative content or design required to stage an exhibition or performance or to produce a film. It is anticipated that this will be an annual competition.

Current Opportunities

Seed Funding for Early-Stage Initiatives

Up to $30,000 may be requested to support early-stage, developmental activities. Up to an additional $10,000 may be requested if a summer GSR is included for three months at 50% time. The seed fund awards will go to projects that have not previously received funding from public or private sources.

Seed funding may be used for the development of new capabilities, facilitated workshops or conferences, acquisition of key data and materials, preliminary testing and design, grant and event planning, and dissemination and promotion. Budgets might include GSR support, travel, event costs (including staffing), materials and supplies, IT resources, participant support, etc. Summer salary is not eligible for funding.
