Office of Research Seed Funding Initiatives

The Office of Research provides seed funding at various levels to advance research and creative work and enhance competitiveness for extramural funding. Information on specific funding initiatives is disseminated to the campus community through divisions and institutes; competitions are run through InfoReady. The focus and funding level of individual competitions will vary, but we expect those listed below to be offered regularly. Contact resdev@ucsc.edu with any questions.

Seed Funding for Center-scale Initiatives

The program will prepare multi-disciplinary teams to submit competitive “center-scale” proposals or make pitches to funders and promoters to advance major creative productions. Awardees will focus on scholarship, or on implementing and evaluating institutional mechanisms to support retention and success of faculty and students from underrepresented groups. Awards were made in 2023.

Seed Funding for Early-stage Initiatives

The program supports early-stage, developmental activities that have not previously received funding from public or private sources. Awards were made in 2022.
